The Blues’ win sees them close the gap to two points on leaders Liverpool, but Manchester City are now favourites after beating Crystal Palace 2-0 to take them three points behind with a game in hand and superior goal difference.
Chelsea’s victory was a devastating blow for Liverpool’s title chances and ended their 11-match winning streak but the manner in which Chelsea won the match was another kick in the teeth to lovers of attacking football,
Jose Mourinho’s anti-football approach won the day and he has proved his spoiling tactics are very effective at getting results wherever he’s managed.
Brendan Rodgers’ Reds have been a breath of fresh air this season playing an exciting brand of football that has lit up the Premier League and Sunday was a chance for the attack-minded tactics to put one over on the defensive approach that put many neutrals off.
But Mourinho once again proved defence over attack can be more rewarding and, unfortunately results and performances like this only encourage more managers to do the same.
Hopefully Liverpool can recover from this demoralising defeat and win the Premier League and prove that attacking football is the best tactic.
