Barcelona will appoint a former player as new boss with Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde in the frame

Barcelona will go back to their roots on July 1 when they name a former player as their new coach for next season. What remains to be seen is which player.
Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde is the first choice of Barça sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta but he still has a year left on his contract and, having steered the team almost certainly into the Champions League, it will be difficult to prise him away.

Luis Enrique has emerged as a serious alternative having guided Celta Vigo to safety in his first season at the club. Seven points from the last nine has left the Galician side 10th in the table.
Frank de Boer, Ronaldo Koeman and current Barça B team coach Eusebio Sacristán are outside bets with the latter having guided Barça B to second in the second tier despite losing a host of talented players – including Gerard Deloufeu – at the start of the season.
One thing is certain, having agreed the Tata Martino experiment has largely failed, the club are determined to go back to the same in-house hiring that brought them so much success with Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova.
